DBB sponsors bull riding at Canadian Rockies International Rodeo & Music Festival
June 13, 2015
DBB LLP is sponsoring the bull riding event at this year’s rodeo hosted by the Alberta Rockies Gay Rodeo Association (AGRA) in Strathmore, Alberta from June 26-28.
“We are thrilled to show our support to AGRA through this fantastic event that is open to everyone. At DBB, we have a long history of supporting same sex families and strongly align with AGRA’s philosophy that everyone is entitled to a safe place, where all genders, orientations and backgrounds are celebrated and welcomed.”
AGRA, the largest gay rodeo association in the world, is a Calgary based not-for-profit society founded in 1991. The first sanctioned Canadian Rockies International Rodeo was held in 1994 and it is now truly an international event with people coming from all corners of the globe to attend.
The rodeo has 13 events, ten that you’ll find at most standard rodeos (bull riding, chute-dogging, breakaway roping, barrel racing, etc.) and three playful “camp” events that give our event a fun and unique flare you won’t find anywhere else.
Participants don’t have to be gay to compete in the gay rodeo — International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA). The rodeos are open to everyone — gay, straight, cowboys and city-folk alike. But unlike traditional rodeos, both women and men to compete in all 13 events — so in this rodeo, for instance, both genders will participate in events such as bull riding and barrel racing.
ARGRA is a member of IGRA, which is comprised of over 28 regional associations and chapters throughout North America. Through their events, the IGRA and its members have committed themselves to the raising of funds from their activities to distribute back to the community for charitable use (over $2M). The Alberta association is the largest in North America and has contributed over $250K to local charities.
Did you know that gay couples are treated the same as heterosexual couples in Alberta when it comes to reproductive technology law?
