Jason L. Wilkins, KC, Appointed to the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta

DBB Law is thrilled to announce that its partner, Jason L. Wilkins, KC, has been appointed a Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta (Calgary). This appointment recognizes his lengthy career of dedication to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and client service.

Mr. Justice Wilkins completed his articles with DBB Law in 2001 and was admitted to the partnership in 2010. He held the role of Managing Partner from January 2014 until 2021. His practice focused primarily on family and employment law, including extensive advocacy before all levels of court in Alberta. Mr. Justice Wilkins also provided exceptional service as a family law mediator and arbitrator.

Awards & Recognitions

As a result of his demonstrated legal excellence in family and labour and employment law, Mr. Justice Wilkins has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada™ on multiple occasions, including in the 2026 edition. Best Lawyers also named him “Lawyer of the Year” for Family Law (Calgary) for 2026, an award he previously received in 2022.

Career Highlights & Community Involvement

In addition to these accolades, Mr. Justice Wilkins’ career has been marked by numerous highlights. These include appearing before the Supreme Court of Canada on an issue of solicitor-client privilege and serving as Commission Counsel to the Alberta Health Services Preferential Access Inquiry, where he assisted the Province of Alberta in investigating allegations of queue-jumping.

Mr. Justice Wilkins has also been a long-standing and committed volunteer with Calgary Legal Guidance, for which he received the Allan D. Hunter Volunteer of the Year Award in 2008. He previously served on the Board of Cause Canada and contributed to fundraising initiatives for that organization, along with several other community-focused causes.

Celebrating 25 Years of Exceptional Legal Service – And an Exciting Next Chapter

DBB Law extends its congratulations to Mr. Justice Wilkins on the well-deserved honour of his appointment to the Court of King’s Bench, and thanks him for 25 years of service to the firm! Although we will miss his leadership and presence within our office, we are excited to watch his career continue as a valued member of Alberta’s judiciary.
