Rhoda is the past chair of DBB’s Family Practice Group and practices exclusively in the area of family law, including mediation and collaborative law . Rhoda joined DBB in 1999 and has been specializing in family law since 1995. She received her mediation training through the Legal Education Society of Alberta in 1998, and is a current instructor for the LESA Mediation course.

 

Rhoda is a past co-chair of the Calgary Association of Collaborative Family Lawyers and continues as an active member. She is also a former sessional instructor at the University of Calgary where she taught the Interviewing and Counseling program at the Faculty of Law for 9 years.

 

She is also past chair of the Public Legal Education & Professional Development Committee of the Canadian Bar Association and continues to be a member. In her capacity with the Public Legal Education Committee, Rhoda often sits on the Alberta Education Provincial Exam review committee.

 

Rhoda has authored numerous publications for the Legal Education Society of Alberta, the Alberta Law Conference, the National Family Law Conference as well as the Law Society of Manitoba. She has also presented to the Canadian Bar Association Calgary Family Law Section, the Wills and Estates Section and the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners.

 

Rhoda’s volunteer activities include teaching the Bar Admission (CPLED) Course annually, regularly speaking at seminars and conferences regarding Family Law, and mentoring junior lawyers in Family Law. She is also a Director and founding member of WINK Calgary, a not for profit association established to assist women in gaining financial literacy and education.

 

In her spare time, Rhoda advocates on behalf of the Southern Alberta Rottweiler Rescue Society, the Cochrane Humane Society and the Animal Rescue Foundation of Alberta, having served as a past member on the Board of Directors of the Cochrane Humane Society.
